Mrs. Joseph (Vivian) "Putch" Bortscheller, 92, of Le Mars, died Friday May 6, 2005, at Floyd Valley Hospital in Le Mars, following a brief illness.
The former Vivian A. Treinen was born Dec. 27, 1912, at Alton, the daughter of Peter and Lucy (Greff) Treinen. She grew up in Alton and attended St. Mary's Academy. She moved to Le Mars as a young woman in 1930 and attended St. Joseph's Catholic School. On Jan. 2, 1939, Vivian married Joseph F. Bortscheller at St. James Catholic Church in Le Mars. The couple farmed for many years near Le Mars. Later, she was employed with Kohout's Cap Company and Aalfs Manufacturing for many years.
Mrs. Bortscheller was a member of St. James Catholic Church and the Altar-Rosary Society.
She loved baking and having her neighbors over for coffee and some of her famous baked sugar cookies. She also enjoyed watching her evening shows on television.
Survivors include a sister, Mrs. Raymond (Allene) Fiedler of Le Mars; her special niece and godchild Christy Weed of Le Mars, and many other nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband Joseph; three sisters, Lillian Bortscheller, Kathleen Junker, and Lois Bushee; and four brothers, Clarence, Raymond, Peter, and Kenneth Treinen.
Funeral services will be at 10 a.m. Tuesday at St. James Catholic Church in Le Mars, with the Rev. James Tigges officiating. Burial will be in Calvary Cemetery in Le Mars. Visitation will be anytime after 3 p.m. today (Monday) at the Feuerstein Funeral Home in Le Mars. A parish rosary will be at 4 p.m. and the Scriptural wake service at 7 p.m. at the funeral home.
Pallbearers will be Adam Schoenherr, Shawn Weed, Russ Schoenherr, Marty Weed, David Bortscheller and Herman Bremer.
