Evelyn Heuertz, 88, of Le Mars, died Tuesday April 4, 2006, at Good Samaritan Village (Brentwood) in Le Mars.

The former Evelyn C. Tentinger was born May 1, 1917, on the family farm in Fredonia Township, north of Remsen, the daughter of Peter and Mary (Ludwig) Tentinger. She grew up in the Remsen and Oyens area. On Feb. 18, 1941, Evelyn married Victor Nicholas Heuertz at St. Catherine's Catholic Church in Oyens. The couple farmed for 43 years in Union Township. In 1984, they retired and moved to Le Mars. Over the years Evelyn had been employed in Le Mars at Sacred Heart Hospital and later Floyd Valley Hospital. Her husband, Victor Heuertz died Oct. 12, 1987.

Evelyn was a member of St. Joseph's Catholic Church in Le Mars, the Church Guild, The Christian Mother's Society, and was a 50-year member of the Catholic Daughters of America.

Evelyn enjoyed playing cards with friends and was involved in numerous card clubs.

Survivors include a son, Gary Heuertz and his wife Collette of Polk City; a brother Melvin "Bob" Tentinger and his wife, Alvira of Remsen; a sister. Elaine Staab of Remsen; sisters-in-law: Mrs. Emmert (Norma) Tentinger of Remsen and Mrs. Ralph (Marge) Tentinger of Slayton, Minn., Ella Kounkel of Le Mars, and Mrs. Wilber (Lillian) Heuertz of Le Mars; brothers-in-law, Carl Kestel of Remsen and Stanley "Bud" Heuertz and his wife Frances "Babe" of Le Mars; and many nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Peter and Mary Tentinger; her husband, Victor; three brothers, Richard in infancy, Emmert and Ralph Tentinger; a sister, Mildred Kestel; brothers-in-law, Richard Staab, Wilbur Heuertz, Ed Lewis, John Peterson, Albert Kurtzhals, and Walt Kounkel; and a sister-in-law, Viola Peterson.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be at 10:30 a.m. Saturday at St. Joseph's Catholic Church in Le Mars, with the Rev. Kevin Richter officiating. Burial will be in Calvary Cemetery in Le Mars.

Visitation begins after 3 p.m. on Friday at the Feuerstein Funeral Home with a combined rosary by the Christian Mothers and Catholic Daughters at 4 p.m. and a Scriptural Wake Service at 7 p.m.

Pallbearers will be Rick Heuertz, Doug Lewis, John Staab, Terry Tentinger, Pam Phillips and Mike Tentinger.

Memorials may be directed to Gehlen Catholic Schools or to the family.
