Wayne W. Radtke, 76, of Akron, Iowa, passed away Wednesday, November 8, 2006 at St. Luke’s Regional Medical Center in Sioux City, Iowa.

Services will be 10:30 a.m. Monday, November 13, 2006 at Immanuel Lutheran Church, E.L.C.A. in Akron with Reverend Dawn Quame officiating. Private burial will be at a later date in the Riverside Cemetery in Akron, Iowa. Visitations will be after 1:00 p.m. Sunday, November 12, 2006 with the family present after 4:00 p.m., and a Prayer service at 5:00 p.m., all at the Carlsen Funeral Home – Schroeder Chapel in Akron, Iowa. Visitations will resume 1 hour prior to the funeral on Monday at the church.

Casket Bearers will be his grandsons: Jordan Bringman, Justin Bringman, Kory McMillan, Chad Jacobs, Kyle Jacobs, and Mathew Jacobs.

Honorary Casket Bearers will be his granddaughters: Kimberlee Heyl, Kerrie Olson, and Heather Kjose.

William “Wayne” Radtke was born July 18, 1930 on the family farm near Westfield, Iowa, the son of Arthur and Blanche (Kroksh) Radtke. He attended Sunnyside country school near Westfield. He helped his father on the farm. He was united in marriage to Arlene Hoffman on August 9, 1949 in Elk Point, South Dakota. They farmed in the Westfield and Akron area. Arlene passed away in 1980. Wayne also worked for Sioux Tools for a while and later at Iowa Lamb in Hawarden, Iowa for over 20 years. He married Marilyn Liston on October 24, 1981 in Akron, Iowa. Following his retirement in 1990, they moved to Akron.

Wayne’s passion was farming, after retiring his passion was gardening. He loved working in his garden and decorating his yard. He also enjoyed feeding birds and squirrels. He loved decorating for Christmas and helping his wife bake Christmas cookies. He enjoyed crafts and devising trinkets. His rain gauge design was known and used by many. He was an avid collector of pig figurines. Before his health began to fail, he enjoyed fishing and hunting. Wayne’s greatest joy in life was spending time with friends and family, especially his grandchildren and great grandchildren. He will be greatly missed by all who knew him.

Survivors include his wife of over 25 years, Marilyn of Akron, Iowa; 2 daughters: Sandy McMillan and her husband Ken of Akron, and Denise Bringman of Akron; 3 step-children: Sherry Jacobs and her husband Kevin of Akron, Duane “Butch” Liston and his wife Sue of Downers Grove, IL, and Randy Liston of San Antonio, TX; 14 grandchildren; 9 great grandchildren; and many brothers-in-law, sisters-in-law, nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents; his first wife, Arlene; a son: Gordon Radtke in 1990; 4 brothers: Elwood, Bill, Willis, and Fern; and a sister: Elvera Larson.
