Krista C. Phelps, 16, of Kingsley, died suddenly Sunday afternoon, May 23, 2010, at Mercy Medical Center in Sioux City, due to complications of anorexia.

On Aug. 17, 1993, at St. Luke's Hospital in Sioux City, Krista Coryell Phelps entered into the world, and at the same time, the hearts and arms of her loving parents, Laura Lee (Uhl) and Scott Coryell Phelps. Krista was baptized Sept. 5, 1993, and made her First Communion April 28, 2002, both at the St. Michael's Catholic Church in Kingsley.

Since the days of her early youth, Krista was always very mature. She was a kind, loving, unselfish, and very busy young lady! Krista found great joy in horseback riding, spending time with her parents and siblings, especially treasuring their trips to Okoboji, practicing throwing the discus, taking walks with her mom and sister, shopping, and watching movies. She was an advocate for animal rights and loved her family pets, and the colors of the rainbow!

Krista was just completing her sophomore year at Kingsley-Pierson High School, where she was an "A" honor student (since grade school), and very proud of her homework and grades.

Krista's life was full of school and community activities. She was a football cheerleader, a member of the Dance Attack squad, played volleyball, played third base on the softball team, was on the student council, coached a youth soccer team, and was a summer lifeguard at the Moville and Kingsley city pools.

Even though Krista's physical health was greatly compromised, she earned her way to the state track meet at Drake University last Friday, where she threw her discus and left Des Moines, a medalist winner. Krista had a great respect and admiration for her track coaches and her teammates.

Krista's devotion to her faith was a high priority to her. She was a program assistant at the St. Michael's Youth Camp Cayoca, and recently on April 21, 2010, Krista was confirmed at the St. Michael's Catholic Church, where she humbly read the First Reading of the Mass.

Krista will be cherished forever in the hearts and memories of all who shared in her life.

She is survived by her adoring parents, Scott and Laura Phelps; her younger siblings, Colton, Kiana and Nick Phelps, of Kingsley; her grandparents, Robert and Carol Phelps and Francis and Sharry Uhl, all of Kingsley; her aunts, uncles, and cousins, and countless numbers of friends, teachers, coaches, caregivers, and acquaintances.

Krista is preceded in death by her great-grandparents.

Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10 a.m. Thursday at St. Michael's Catholic Church in Kingsley, with the Rev. Mark J. Stoll presiding. Interment will be in the Kingsley City Cemetery.

Visitation will be at St. Michael's Catholic Church in Kingsley today (Wednesday), from 2-8 p.m. with the family present from 5-8 p.m. A Scriptural prayer service will be at 7 p.m.

The visitation will continue at the church, one hour prior to Krista's service on Thursday.
