Margaret S. Ioos, 97, of Le Mars, died Monday, May 24, 2010, at Plymouth Manor Care Center in Le Mars.
Margaret Selma Utech was born April 29, 1913, in Plymouth County, the daughter of William and Mary (Piepenberg) Utech. She attended country school near her home and helped with housework and farming. On Nov. 14, 1934, Margaret and Henry Ioos were united in marriage. The couple farmed near Le Mars until 1964 when they moved to Le Mars.
Margaret worked at Hollander's Store and later at Marie's Dress Shop, Vances and Spurgeon's Department Store. She retired in 1987. Henry died Aug. 1, 1989.
Margaret was a member of the Presbyterian United Church of Christ where she served as deacon, and was active with Evening Guild and sewing groups.
She helped organize The Abbey of Le Mars Auxiliary and served as a volunteer there for many years. She was also active with Le Mars Senior Citizens, serving as its secretary, Floyd Valley Hospital Auxiliary, and Peer Group.
Margaret enjoyed embroidery and created many dish towels for the Floyd Valley Hospital Hospital Gift Shop and Plymouth Manor. She also enjoyed crafts and was a member of a hobby club.
She will be lovingly remembered by her daughter, Judy Conway of Johnston; a son, Lanny Ioos of Winner, S.D.; grandchildren Jamie Ioos, Kelly Conway, and Jason Conway and his wife Betsy; great-granddaughters, Lily and Ellie Conway; a sister, Mamie Pech of Le Mars; and son-in-law Eddie Martfield and his wife, Norma of Le Mars.
She was preceded in death by her parents; husband Henry; a daughter, Janice Martfield; a sister, Lillian Pech; brothers Ed Frank, Wesley, Lawrence, and Ray; brothers-in-law John Pech and Ed Pech; and sisters-in-law Florence, Clara, Helen, and Luella Utech.
Funeral services will be at 10:30 a.m. Thursday at the Presbyterian United Church of Christ in Le Mars. The Rev. Janis M. Christensen will officiate. Burial will follow at Memorial Cemetery in Le Mars. Visitation will begin at 2 p.m. today (Wednesday) at the Mauer - Johnson Funeral Home of Le Mars. The family will be present from 6-8 p.m. to greet friends. There will also be one hour of visitation at the church prior to the funeral service on Thursday.
