Jan (Treft Ege) Fara, 70, of Akron, died Tuesday, May 25, 2010, at her home near Akron.
Janice Lee Treft was born April 25, 1940, in Sioux City, the daughter of August and Agnes (Cantin) Treft. She attended grade school at St. Boniface Catholic School and graduated from Heelan High School.
She attended Stewart's School of Cosmetology in Sioux City. She worked as a stylist for Younker's in Sioux City and later Seni De Paz in Sioux City where she made many lasting memories and friendships.
She was united in marriage to John "Jack" Fara June 14, 1969, in Sioux City. After their marriage, Jan was a homemaker as well as a designer for Custom Interiors in Le Mars. Later, she helped Jack on the farm and with their dairy operation. She and Jack owned and operated Fara's Dairy for more than 25 years. During that time she bottle fed many calves and increased their survival rate by 80 percent.
Jan enjoyed collecting miniature shoes, tassel dolls and painting many Santa Claus figurines. She also enjoyed doing ceramic work and dancing and music. She taught herself to play the organ. She loved the outdoors and tending to her flower gardens.
Through the years, Jan enjoyed teaching CCD classes at St. Patrick's Catholic Church.
She will be greatly missed by all who knew her. We will all miss her humor and her honesty.
She was a great role model and an awesome G'ma Nana.
Survivors include her husband of more than 40 years, Jack of rural Akron; a son, Mark Ege of Troy, Ohio; a sister: Molly "Marjean" Lee of Cherokee; a sister-in-law, Mary Ann Fara of Le Mars; two brothers in law: Jim Fara (Joanna) of Cincinnati, Ohio, and Orland Fara (Ona Dean) of Manning; numerous nieces and nephews; "adopted" daughter, Cindy Foley (Dave) and their sons, Dominick, Alex, and Daytona of rural Le Mars; special friends, Kym Rich (Chris) and their daughter, Samantha and her fiancé Cody Engebretson of Le Mars, and Kevin Jackson (Tanya) and their children, Kelsey and Montana of Akron; and her caregiver, Courtney Weiss of Akron.
She was preceded in death by her parents; a brother in infancy: Joseph Treft; and a brother in law: Kenneth Lee.
Mass of Christian Burial will be 10:30 a.m. Friday at St. Patrick's Catholic Church in Akron. Monsignor Richard Zenk will celebrate. Visitation will be after 4 p.m. Thursday, with the family present after 6 p.m. There will be a Scriptural wake service at 7 p.m. followed by a parish rosary, all Carlsen Funeral Home - Schroeder Chapel in Akron. Visitation will resume one hour prior to Mass on Friday at the funeral home.
