Doris Muecke, 78, of Hinton, died suddenly, Saturday, May 22, 2010, at Mercy Medical Center in Sioux City.

Doris L. Holt was born Sept. 9, 1931, at Sioux City, the daughter of Lester P. and Edna S. (Larson) Holt. Doris was baptized at Wesley United Methodist Church in Sioux City. She attended school in Leeds. Doris was united in marriage to David Muecke on March 8, 1951 at Trinity Lutheran Church, rural Hinton.

Along with helping her husband on the farm, Doris cleaned homes in Sioux City for several years. Doris worked for Northern Hills Retirement Center from 2000 until her retirement in 2007.

Doris was a longtime member of Trinity Lutheran Church and enjoyed participating in church activities.

Doris and David enjoyed square dancing, ballroom dancing and golfing throughout the years.

She also enjoyed flower gardening and her vegetable garden. Her greatest joy in life was the time spent with her grandchildren.

Survivors include her husband of 59 years, David Muecke of Hinton; her children: Linda Chesher of Sioux City, Lori Hawk and her fiancé Bob Howe of Angora, Minn., and Scott Muecke and his wife Tina of Hancock, and Raymond Hawk, former son-in-law; 10 grandchildren: Lisa Chesher, Jennifer Kober and her husband Shawn, Julie Howard, Melissa Hawk, David Hawk, Tricia Fraizer, Billy Wilke, Amber Wilke, Zach Petersen, and Corey Petersen and 12 great-grandchildren; three sisters, Shirley Roehrich of Sioux City, Mildred Paul and her husband, Charles of St. Joseph, Mo., and Phyllis Krause of Le Mars; brothers, Lester H. "Bud" Holt Jr. and his wife, Virginia of Otter Tail, Minn., and John Meier and his wife, Pat of Sioux City; two sisters-in-law, Shirley Papenhausen of Sioux City and Luella Stabe of Hinton; a brother-in-law, Merlin "Bud" Muecke and his wife, Loretta of Hinton; and several nieces and nephews.

Doris was preceded in death her parents and a son, Craig Muecke in 1962.

Funeral services will be 10 a.m. Thursday at Trinity Lutheran Church, rural Hinton, with the Rev. Steven Stoll officiating. Interment will be in the church cemetery. Visitation will be after 3 p.m. Wednesday at the Carlsen Funeral Home in Le Mars with the family present after 6 p.m. to greet friends, followed by a 7 p.m. prayer service. Visitation will continue Thursday morning from 9 a.m. until service time.

Pallbearers will be Jason Schoenrock, Miles Petersen, Dan Robinson, Kevin Papenhausen, Don Kounkel, and Craig Thoreson. Honorary casket bearers will be Eldo Bollmeyer, Vernon Stabe, Bernard Junck, Blaine Kounkel, Arnie Binnebose, and John Meier.
