CONSTANCE CHAPMAN
Constance Chapman, 86, Carlsbad, N.M., a LeMars native, died June 14, 1983, at Carlsbad.
Services were held June 16, at Carlsbad with internment in the Carlsbad Cemetery.
A scholarship fund has been set up in her name at the Carlsbad National Bank.
She was born Feb. 4, 1897, to Grant and Margaret March Chapman. She graduated as valedictorian from LeMars High School and from the University of Iowa in 1920. She earned a Bachelor of Arts degree in history and math and taught school in Iowa, North and South Dakota and in 1929 started teaching in Carlsbad High School, where she continued to teach for 35 years.
She retired in 1964. She was a member of DAR, Mayflower Society and numerous educational societies and teacher and community organizations.
She is survived by five nieces and nephews. They are Robert Chapman of La Crescenta, Calif.; Roland Chapman of Spirit Lake; Gerald Chapman, LeMars; Kathleen Chapman Mower, San Diego, and Lorraine Chapman Hoffman of Alton. There are thirty great-nieces and nephews and fifteen great-great nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents and a brother, T. K. Chapman.
