Iona E. Sudtelgte, 85 of Brookings, SD died May 9, 2001, at United Retirement Center in Brookings.

Services will be at 10 am Monday at St. Thomas More Catholic Church in Brookings, with the Rev. Tom Heck officiating. Burial will be in St. Mary’s Cemetery, Elkton, SD. Visitation will be 4 to 8 pm Sunday, with a Scripture service at 7 pm at Skroch Funeral Home in Elkton.

Mrs. Sudtelgte was born Feb. 12, 1916, near Kingsley, Iowa, the daughter of Artie and Agnes (Conley) Pratt. She attended country school and graduated from Union Consolidated School in 1933. She then helped on the family farm before moving to Sioux City. She was employed as a maid and attended beauty school in Sioux City. Following her graduation from beauty school, she was employed in LeMars and Rock Rapids, IA.

She married Justin “Chub” Sudtelgte on Jan. 21, 1941, in Remsen, IA. The couple farmed in Iowa for eight years. In 1949 they moved to a farm near Verdi, MN, where they lived for over 37 years. In 1987 they moved to a farm near Hendricks, MN where they lived until her husband’s death, April 7, 1994. She then moved to Brookings.

She was a former member of Our Lady of Good Counsel Catholic Church in Elkton and a member of St. Thomas More Catholic Church in Brookings. She enjoyed traveling.

Survivors include four daughters, Shirley and her husband, Ken Robinson of Brookings, Dorothy and her husband, Mike Churn of Chisago City, MN, Judy Sudtelgte of Kansas City, MO, and Mary and her husband, Ron Ottoson of St. Louis Park, MN; twin sons and their wives, Joseph and Susan of Elkton and Jerome and Sharon of Medford, OR; 12 grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; six brothers, Donald Pratt of Pierson, IA, Lyle Pratt of Washta, IA, Clarence Pratt of Aurelia, IA, Robert Pratt and Richard Pratt of LeMars, IA and Orlin Pratt of Remsen; two sisters, Erma Plendl of Sioux City and Dorothy Rainboth of Marcus, IA; two sisters-in-law, Audrey Sudtelgte of Remsen, IA and Charlotte Furch of Canyon City, CO and a brother-in-law, Dennis Sudtelgte of Alton, IA.

She was preceded in death by a brother, Wyndom Pratt.
