Thelma R. Mairose, 64, of Le Mars, died Tuesday, April 13, 2010, at the Brentwood Good Samaritan Village in Le Mars.

Thelma Rae Mairose was born June 20, 1945, in Rock Valley, one of five children born to Raymond and Tillie (Burgers) Berner. Thelma attended Rock Valley High School.

She made her home in Le Mars, and, for a brief time, worked at Aalfs Manufacturing as a seamstress. Thelma was a homemaker while her children were younger and then began a longtime career as a daycare provider from her home.

Thelma was a member of St. Joseph's Catholic Church in Le Mars.

She enjoyed flower gardening and loved growing peonies and tulips. She was an avid fan of Elvis Presley, enjoyed bird watching, raised Pugs, collected Pug statues and memorabilia, and did a great deal of reading.

Her home was in the kitchen where she enjoyed cooking for her children, grandchildren, and her daycare family.

Thelma looked forward to watching her son Don perform with the White Horse Mounted Patrol in the local parades.

Spoiling her grandchildren came naturally and she cherished all the time spent with them.

Thelma will be lovingly remembered by her children, Diane (Phil) Staab of Remsen, Dave (Carol) Mairose of Le Mars, Donald "Hummer" Mairose of Le Mars, and Dawn (Eric) Bland of Jefferson, S.D.; her grandchildren, Lindsey and Drew Staab, Natasha Mairose, Emily and Benjamin "BJ" Mairose, Nick Madsen, Kendra, Andrea and Hayley Bland; a sister JoAnn (Henry) VerMulm of Rock Valley; a brother Ray (Billie) Berner of Longmont, Colo.; and a friend of the family, Betty Madsen of Le Mars.

She was preceded in death by her parents; a sister, Rose Hewitt, and a brother, George Berner.

Funeral services will be at 7 p.m. Friday at the Mauer- Johnson Funeral Home of Le Mars. The Rev. Matt Hewitt will officiate. A private family burial service will take place at a later date. Visitation will begin at 2 p.m. Friday. The family will be present from 6 to 8 p.m. with the funeral service beginning at 7 p.m.
