Marion Ross, 77, of Westfield, Iowa passed away Tuesday, April 13, 2010 at St. Luke’s Regional Medical Center in Sioux City, Iowa.

Funeral services will be 2:00 p.m. Friday, April 16, 2010 at Westfield Congregational United Church of Christ in Westfield, Iowa. Pastor Martha Anderson of Church of All Nations in Sioux City, Iowa will officiate. Burial will follow in the Westfield Township Cemetery, rural Westfield, Iowa. Visitation will be after 4:00 p.m. Thursday, April 15, 2010, with the family present from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m., all at Carlsen Funeral Home – Schroeder Chapel in Akron, Iowa. Visitation will resume from 1:00 p.m. until service time on Friday at the church.

Marion Ruth Hummel was born March 6, 1933 at the family home in Westfield, Iowa, the daughter of Lynn and S. Clementine (Mount) Hummel. She attended school in Westfield.

She was united in marriage to Guy Ross on March 24, 1951 in Sioux City, Iowa. Early on their marriage, Marion was a homemaker for her family. Later, Marion worked for the U.S. Post Office in Westfield as a relief postal clerk for over 20 years. Guy passed away November 16, 2000. In 2001, she retired due to her health.

Marion was active in many ways in Westfield. She was currently serving her second term on the Westfield City Council and she was a volunteer for Westfield Library. Marion loved quilting. She helped quilt and sew layettes for Birth Right of Siouxland for over 10 years. Marion also enjoyed playing scrabble and cards, putting puzzles together, and reading. She will be greatly missed by all who knew her.

Survivors include her two daughters: Donna Ross-Moreno of Westfield, IA, and Rose Zediker (Mike) of Elk Point, SD; 2 grandchildren: Jeremiah Zediker (Afton) and their daughter, Brooklyn of Tea, SD, Carmen Moreno of Kansas City, MO; 3 brothers: Arnold Hummel (Wilma) of Akron, IA, James “Hank” Hummel (Sherry) of Fischer, IL, and Robert Hummel (Laurel) of Hartsville, AL; 2 sisters: Neoma “Nettie” Dunham of Alcester, SD, and Mavis Klein of Richland, SD; 2 sisters in law: Velma Knudsen of Akron, IA, and Bettie Odle (Blair) of Lebanon, MO; special friends: Ron and Ann Trudo of Jefferson, SD; and many nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Guy Ross; her father and mother in law: Guy and Laura Ross; 2 sisters in law: Marlys Vrana and Caroline Hummel; 5 brothers in law: Ronald Klein, Robert Dunham, Melvin Ross, Harold Vrana, and Hans Knudsen.
