Lula Ellen Plendl Woodley, 61, of El Paso, Texas, and formerly of Kingsley, went home to be with the Lord, Thursday, April 15, 2010, at William Boumont Army Medical Center, El Paso, Texas, after a courageous battle with cancer.

Lula Ellen Plendl was born to Helen Bradley Plendl and Harry Joseph Plendl, on Sept. 4, 1948. Lula grew up on a farm west of Kingsley, with seven brothers and sisters. She attended and graduated from Kingsley-Pierson High School in 1966.

She was a dedicated army wife, loving mother of two children and a cherished grandmother of six. For 25 years she worked at the Ft. Bliss Army Base as a sales associate at Aafes in El Paso, Texas up until the time she began her battle with cancer.

Lula was an avid fan of her grandchildren's sporting activities. She enjoyed traveling with her husband and siblings, country music, and keeping in touch with family and friends. Her most cherished moments were spent with her children and grandchildren.

Lula leaves to cherish her memories, Terry, her husband and best friend of 44 years; two children, Jerry (Gina) Woodley, Sheila Woodley (Maurice Butler), and six grandchildren, Joshua, Johnny, Christian and Brandon Woodley. Jenna and Dezmond Woodley.

Lula will be also lovingly remembered by three brothers, David (MaryAnn) Plendl, Omaha, Neb., Larry Plendl (Linda Janssen), Husdson, S.D., and Joesph Plendl, Sioux City; three sisters Dorothy Sorenson, Lake Crystal, Minn., Paula (Evan) Ball, Eagan, Minn., and Mary Trout, Kingsley; one sister-in-law, Cynthia Plendl, Le Mars; and many nieces, nephews, and close friends.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Helen Bradley Plendl and Harry Joseph Plendl; one brother, Kenny Plendl; a sister-in-law Marge Plendl; two brother-in-laws, Jens Sorenson and Donald Trout; an infant nephew Jeffery Trout; and a special niece who shared her birthday, Jolene Plendl.

A prayer service was held Monday, with visitation from 4 to 8 p.m. at Retz Funeral Home, 203 Maple, Sheffield. Funeral service was at 10 a.m. today (Tuesday). Burial was at West Fork Cemetery, Dougherty.
