Raymond J. Krier, 93, of Remsen, died Thursday, April 15, 2010, at Happy Siesta Health Care Center in Remsen.
Ray was born April 27, 1916, at Remsen, the son of Aloysius and Magdalen (Scharff) Krier. He was raised in the Remsen area and attended St. Mary's Catholic School in Remsen.
On Sept. 25, 1945, he married Viola Konz. They made their home on the family farm south of Remsen where they farmed until 1979 when they retired and moved into Remsen. Ray loved bowling, golfing, hunting and made annual trips to Canada to fish.
He dearly loved his family and happily welcomed anyone into his home. It was always his greatest delight to have his grandchildren and great-grandchildren come to visit.
Ray was a member of the Knights of Columbus, Sportsman Club and a volunteer driver for Meals on Wheels.
He was a past member of the Catholic Order of Foresters.
Survivors include his wife Viola of 64 years; seven children, Jim Krier and his wife Karen, Jerry Krier and his wife Sandy, Jan Scheitler and her husband Stan, Connie Plathe and her husband Bob, Bev Bacan and her husband Tom, Ron Krier and his wife Rose, all of Remsen, Nancy Augustine and her husband Dick of Sioux City; 18 grandchildren; 25 great-grandchildren; one sister, Phyllis Streff of Alton; two sisters-in-law, Margaret Lehnertz of Redmond, Ore., and Agnes Konz of Alton; one brother-in-law, Pete Konz and his wife Delores of Alton.
He was preceded in death by his parents; one grandson, Adam Krier; two sisters, Clarinda Wurth and her husband Pete, Miranda Wurth and her husband Bernie; brothers and sisters-in-law, Clarence Streff, Wally Lehnertz, Leola Ricke and her husband Omar, Francis Konz, Cletus Konz and his wife Mary, Bob Konz and his wife Bernice, and Ron Konz.
Funeral services were at 10:30 a.m. Monday at St. Mary's Catholic Church in Remsen with the Rev. William McCarthy officiating and Msgr. Roger Augustine and Msgr. Nicholas Ruba concelebrating. Burial was in the St. Mary's Catholic Cemetery in Remsen.
Visitation was after 4 p.m. Sunday, with a parish rosary at 5 p.m. and a vigil prayer service at 7 p.m. followed by a Knights of Columbus rosary, all at St. Mary's Catholic Church in Remsen. Visitation continued from 9 a.m. until service time Monday at the church.
Services have been entrusted to Fisch Funeral Home & Monument in Remsen.
Pallbearers were Tom Krier, Todd Scheitler, Laura Sequeira, Brett Bacan, Jason Augustine and Maggie Krier. Honorary pallbearers were his grandchildren.
