Gale Bergsma Rite

Gale E. Bergsma, 76, died at the Hawarden hospital at 10:15 P.M. Wednesday evening. July 22 following an illness of some months. He was a resident of this community since 1912 and of the town of Ireton since 1935. For many years he followed the vocation of farming, later carried mail and served as gasoline station attendant.

Deceased was born in Friesland, Holland on Feb. 14, 1883. He came to the United states with his family when five years of age and they settled in LeMars.

On February 14, 1910 he was married at LeMars to Hermina (Minnie) Luikens, who survives him. Children are one daughter, Mrs. E. B. Maston. Sioux City, and three sons, Edward G. of Buena Park, Calif., Melvin L. of Bell Gardens, Calif. and Robert T. of Des Moines.

Mr. Bergsma was a charter member of the First Reformed church here and later was affiliated with the Presbyterian church of which he was Senior Elder and officer in the Sunday school, always active until his recent sickness, He held many offices of trust.

Funeral services were held Saturday at the Presbyterian church with Rev. Roy M, Smith of Hinton in charge. Burial was in Pleasant Hill cemetery.

There are 13 grandchildren and five great grandchildren. Also two brothers, John Bergsma of Sheldon and William Bergsma of Sanborn. Preceding him in death were his parents. the late Mr. and Mrs. Epke Bergsma, a sister Mrs. Anna Kuyper and two brothers, Thomas and Rich­ard.,
