Word was received here Sunday of the death of Mrs. H. C. Wendt, Nee Sophie Hoorneman of Aberdeen, South Dakota. The end came Sunday, August 3, following a sickness the past year with cancer.

Mrs, Wendt was born to the late Mr. and Mrs. Lucas Luikens on a farm three miles west of Struble, Iowa, on January 8, 1898 and four months following her birth, her mother passed away and the baby was reared by her maternal grandparents. the late Mr. and Mrs. Jacob Hoornemun. She was reared in Le Mars.

She graduated from the Le Mars High school in 1914 and taught rural school near Le Mars and at Ida Grove, Iowa. She later attended a business college at Aberdeen, S. D. and worked for firms there. In February, 1937 she was united in marriage to Herman C. Wendt at Sioux City. Iowa and the couple farmed two miles from Aberdeen until retirement five years ago. Mr. Wendt died October 1954. Five children were born to this union. a son, who died in infancy: two daughters, Mrs. Helen Hansen and Mrs. Don Schauneman, both of Aberdeen and two sons, Atlas of Mina, S. D. and Robert of Aberdeen. There are 12 grandchildren, two sisters, Mrs. Elizabeth Pennings of St Paul, Minnesota and Mrs. Gale Bergsma, Ireton, Iowa, one half sister, Mrs. Florence Gellerman of Le Mars; one brother, J. I Luikens of Norfolk. Nebraska; and an uncle, Mr. Jake Hoorneman and a cousin Attorney Morris Hoorneman. Another uncle, Jack Hoorneman of Sioux City: a half brother Charles Luikens of. Redwood Falls, Minnesota; a sister, Mrs. I.W. Rupp, Marshall, Minn. She was a lifelong member of the Methodist church and held many offices of trust. Before her last sickness, she was ex­ecutive secretary for the Farmers Union of Brown county in S, D. Funeral services were held Wednesday August 6. Burial will be in the family plot at the Aberdeen cemetery,
