Steven J. Singer, 57, of Dakota City, Neb., died Friday, Feb. 5, 2010, at Matney's Colonial Manor in South Sioux City, Neb., following a lengthy battle with Huntington's Chorea.

Steven was born Oct. 3, 1952, in Le Mars the son of Elmer and Evelyn (Schiltz) Singer. He attended Gehlen Catholic School in Le Mars. He married Debra Willer April 12, 1969, in Le Mars. He attended trade school in Des Moines, majoring in auto mechanics. He worked many years at IBP where he served as a union steward for Local 222. He then worked at the Floyd Valley Packing House for eight years.

Steven attended Western Iowa Tech for two years, majoring in computer electronics. Following school, he worked for various construction companies.

Steven played guitar in a band most of his life. He loved his family and music, as well as the Huskers, hunting, fishing, boating and playing cards.

Survivors include his wife, Debra, of Dakota City, Neb.; children, Monica and Terry Fowler, Wendy and David Raff and Jesse Singer, all of Dakota City; grandchildren, Jessica, Travis, Kayla and Ryan Fowler, Shyanne, Haylee and Brody Raff and Jesse Singer, Jr.; special niece and nephew, John and Lori Singer, of Dakota City; special sister-in-law, Janice and Dick Schietzelt of Le Mars; brother, Bill Singer of Spirit Lake; sister, Dorothy and Robert Falk of Scottsdale, Ariz.; sister-in-law, Lorna Singer of Clarksville, Ark.; and many other nieces and nephews.

Steven was preceded in death by his parents, sister and brother-in-law, Shirley and Jack Gengler, and brother, Ron Singer.

Funeral services will be at 10:30 a.m. Tuesday at the Mohr Funeral Home in South Sioux City, Neb., with Hospice Chaplain Randy Rasmussen officiating. Burial will be in the Dakota City Cemetery in Dakota City. Visitation will begin at 5 p.m. today (Monday) with the family present at 6 p.m. and a prayer service at 7 p.m. at the funeral home.
