Lea L. Woll, 68, a native of Le Mars, recently of Detroit, Mich., and longtime Chicago resident, died Thursday Feb. 4, 2010, at the LifeCare Center of Elkhorn in Elkhorn, Neb., following a lengthy illness.
Lea Louise Woll was born Aug. 13, 1941, in Le Mars, the daughter of Leonard and Dolores (Hoffmann) Woll. She grew up in Le Mars and graduated from Gehlen Catholic High School in 1959. Lea attended St. Scholastica College in Atchison, Kan., prior to entering the Sisters of Christian Charity. Throughout the next several years she taught elementary, high school and at the college level. She continued her education and received several degrees including a doctorate degree in psychology.
From 1975 to 1976 Lea was in charge of Parish Ministry at the Campus and Hospital at Holy Trinity in Chicago, Ill., and in 1976 she was instrumental in the formation of The Sisters of the Living Word and was on their Leadership Team from 1976 to 1982. In 1982 and 1983 she was in charge of consulting and training at Mt. Carmel Monastery at Niagara Falls, Canada. From 1983 to 1985 she served the position of Director of Pastoral Renewal for the Diocese of Steubenville, Ohio. From 1985 to 1991 she was the Director of Placement Services for the Archdiocese of Chicago.
In 1993 and 1994 she was employed as an Associate Consultant with Dobbelaere, Goeppinger & Assoc. in Skokie, Ill., and from 1995 to 1998 was a management consultant with Learning Partners at St. Mary of the Lake, Ill. In 1998 Lea moved to Arlington Heights, Ill., where she served as Coordinator of Spiritual Life and on the Sisters of the Living Word Leadership Team. From 2005 to 2009 she served as Director of St. John's Retreat Center in Plymouth, Mich.
Survivors include her five brothers: her twin brother Larry "Butch" Woll and his wife Jeanne of Le Mars, Paul Woll and his wife Lois of Worthington, Minn., Denny Woll and his wife Phyllis of Le Mars, Ed Woll and his wife Alice of Omaha, Neb., and Mark Woll and his wife Robynne of Omaha, Neb.; and many nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be at 10:30 a.m. Tuesday at St. Joseph's Catholic Church in Le Mars with the Rev. Francis A. Cimarrusti, Chicago, Ill., as the main celebrant. Concelebrants will be the Rev. Kevin Richter, the Rev. Charles L. Torpey, Jr., Grand Island, Neb., and the Rev. Robert J. Reiker, St. Louis, Mo. Burial will be in Calvary Cemetery in Le Mars.
Visitation will be anytime after 3 p.m. today (Monday) at the Feuerstein Funeral Home in Le Mars, where there will be a rosary at 4 p.m. and a Vigil Prayer Service at 7 p.m. Visitation will resume on Tuesday morning at St. Joseph's Church for one hour before the funeral.
