Walter E. Utesch, 73, of Hawarden, died Thursday, December 24, in a Sioux City hospital. Services were Monday at St. Mary’s Catholic Church at Hawarden. Burial was in Grace Hill Cemetery.
Utesch was born September 14, 1914, near Brunsville and was raised in the Brunsville area. He married Leone Muth June 2, 1941, at Hawarden. She died January 9, 1974. They farmed in Plymouth County until moving to Hawarden in 1956. He then worked as a custodian at West Sioux School until his retirement in 1975. He married Wilma Androy September 7, 1975, in Moville.
He was a member of St. Mary’s Catholic Church and the Hawarden Saddle Club.
Survivors include his wife; two daughters, Geri Lockhorst of Hawarden and Judy Zoeller of Ireton; a son, Jim Utesch of Le Mars; two step-sons, Roland Androy of West Palm Beach, Florida, and James Androy of Puyallup, Washington; a step-daughter, Pat Horton of Moville; three brothers, Fred Utesch of Sioux City; Harold of Oyens, and Earl of Le Mars; four sisters, Caroline Aldrich of Canton, South Dakota; Vera Dotson of Palm City, Florida Evelyn Wilken of Stuart, Florida; and Esther Oetken of Le Mars; 10 grandchildren six great-grandchildren, six step-grandchildren and seven step-great-grand-children.
