DEATH TAKES FORMER SENATOR,
J. HENRY LUCKEN

LE MARS, Iowa—J. Henry Lucken, 88, of LeMars, former state senator, died Saturday in a nursing home in LeMars.

Services will be at 1:30 p.m. Tuesday in Plymouth Presbyterian Church, rural LeMars. The Rev. Hatty Duncan will officiate. Burial will be in Plymouth Presbyterian Cemetery with military rites conducted by Hoschler Post 186, American Legion, of Akron. A prayer service will be at 7:30 p.m. today in the Mauer-Johnson Funeral Home.

Mr. Lucken was born Feb. 6, 1896, rural Akron and was a lifelong Plymouth County resident except for time he served during World War I. He married Cecilia Woll Dec. 17, 1917, at Merrill. They farmed in Johnson Township, Plymouth County, retiring in 1971.

He was a member of the Plymouth Presbyterian Church where he served as an elder. He was a longtime member and past master of Freedom Masonic Lodge in Akron, Sioux City Consistory, Abu Bekr Shrine Temple, life member and past commander of Hoschler Post 186, American Legion, and officer of World War I Barracks 1507. He served for 25 years as Johnson Township School Board member and served as chairman for 24 years; 26 years as director Plymouth County Co-op Oil Co. and 24 years as director of Area Federal Land Bank Board. He was instrumental in establishing the Rural Electrification Association.

He served in the Iowa State Legislature from 1946 until 1970 as a representative and later as a senator.

Survivors include his wife; one daughter, Mrs. Kenneth (Lucile) Fox of Lodi, Calif.; four sons, Donald W. of Akron, Robert E. of Florissant, Mo., Frank E. of Coronado, Calif., and Ronald G. of Hillsborough, Calif.; two brothers, Fred and Ernest, both of Akron; five sisters, Mrs. Ann Curry and Mrs. Rose Swain, both of South Sioux City, Mrs. Harley (Henrietta) Bue of Sioux City, Mrs. Theodore (Johanna) Erickson of Spencer, and Mrs. Dorothy Murphy of Vermillion, S.D.; nine grandchildren; and 10 great grandchildren.
