“The Reverend Fred J Ahrendt, age 88.—Passed away on Jan 15, 1991 in Spokane. Survived by his daughter & son-in-law, Evangeline & Orville Moeller, Moses Lake, WA; sons & daughters-in-law, Eugene & LaWanna Ahrendt, Tacoma, WA; Armand & Marilyn Ahrendt, Spokane, WA; 10 grandchildren; 6 great grandchildren; 2 brothers & 3 sisters all in Iowa; numerous nieces and nephews. Preceded in death by his wife of 63 years, Margaretha Ahrendt, in 1988.
A resident of Spokane for 32 years. Member of Emmanuel Lutheran Church and former pastor of Lutheran Church in Davenport, Ritzville, and Spokane. Funeral services will be on Saturday Jan 19, 1991 at 11 a.m. at Emmanuel Lutheran Church, interment Fairmount Memorial Park. Hazen & Jaeger Funeral Home in charge.”

Mr Ahrendt, who died Tuesday, was born in Iowa. When he was 15, he left to attend high school, college and the seminary at St Paul, MN. He graduated from college and was ordained in 1925. He began his service as a Lutheran minister in Newberg, OR, for nine months in 1925-26. He served in Davenport, WA, from 1926 to 1942 and then accepted a pastorate in Ritzville, WA, where he served for 16 years before coming to Spokane in 1958 as senior pastor at St Peter Lutheran Church. He retired in 1969 but began a four-year service as visitation minister at Christ Lutheran Church in the Spokane Valley and then began his service with Emmanuel Lutheran Church. He preached his last sermon there earlier this month and participated in the installation of the interim pastor at Emmanuel Lutheran Church. He had served as an officer of the Northwest District of the American Lutheran Church. His wife of 63 years, Margaretha Ahrendt, died in 1988.
Survivors include one daughter, Evangeline Moeller of Moses Lake; two sons, Eugene Ahrendt of Tacoma and Armand Ahrendt of Spokane; two brothers and three sisters in Iowa; 10 grandchildren; and six great grandchildren.”

----------FURTHER NOTES: Per the IA State 1925 Census, his parents were Fred & Gescha Ahrendt, living in Plymouth County, IA. His father Fred was born in Germany. In 1925, Fred Jr., was one of six children living in the household with their parents. Those children were listed as: Emma, age 24; Fred, age 22; Henry, age 20; Riska, age 15; Carl, age 13; and Bennie, age 11.

REV. FRED AHRENDTRev. Fred J. Ahrendt, 88, of Spokane, Wash., a LeMars native, died Tuesday (Jan. 15, 1991) at his residence.
Funeral was at 11 a.m. Saturday, Jan. 19, at Emmanuel Lutheran Church in Spokane. Burial was at Fairmount Memorial Park, with Hazen & Jaeger Funeral Home in charge.
Rev. Ahrendt was a longtime Spokane area Lutheran pastor.
Rev. Ahrendt was born in LeMars Dec. 6, 1902, the son of Fred and Gesche Ahrendt. He attended the parochial grade school of his home congregation—Christ Lutheran Church, Grant Township. At the age of 15, he left to attend high school, college and the seminary at St. Paul, Minn. He graduated from Luther Theological seminary in St. Paul and was ordained in 1925.
He began his service as a Lutheran minister in Newberg, Ore., for nine months in 1925-26. He served in Davenport, Wash., from 1926 to 1942, and then accepted a pastorate in Ritzville, Wash., where he served for 16 years before going to Spokane in 1958 as senior pastor at St. Peter Lutheran Church.
He retired in 1969, but began a 4-year service as visitation minister at Christ Lutheran Church in the Spokane Valley and then began his service with Emmanuel Lutheran Church. He preached his last sermon on January 6, 1991, and participated in the installation of the interim pastor at Emmanuel Lutheran Church on January 13.
He had served as an officer of the Northwest District of the American Lutheran Church.
His wife of 63 years, Margaretha (Meta) Renken Ahrendt, preceded him in death on June 3, 1988.
Survivors are a daughter, Evangeline Moeller, of Moses Lake, Wash.; two sons, Eugene Ahrendt of Tacoma, Wash., and Armand Ahrendt of Spokane; two brothers, Carl Ahrendt and Bennie Ahrendt both of LeMars; three sisters, Amanda Renken, Marie Renken and Rieka, all of LeMars; ten grandchildren, and six great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his wife; a sister; a brother, and a granddaughter.
