Marvin C. Renken, 79,of Le Mars died Monday, Oct, 4, 1999, at Brentwood Good Samaritan Center in Le Mars.
Funeral services were held on Friday, Oct. 8 at 10:30 a.m. at St. John's Lutheran Church, E.L.C.A. in Le Mars. The Rev. Bert Burwell officiated. Burial was in Memorial Cemetery with military rites conducted by American Legion Heeren-McHale-Wilken Post 724 of Brunsville. The Mauer-Johnsen Funeral Home in Le Mars was in charge of arrangements.
Marvin was born Oct.12,1919, at rural Le Mars, the son of Herman and Anna (Brabender) Renken. He attended county school in Grant Township. He was confirmed in the Lutheran faith. He served in the U.S. Army from 1942-1945 during World War II and was awarded the American Theater Ribbon, EAMERibbon, Good Conduct Medal and Victory Medal. Following his discharge, he farmed with his father.
He married Ethel Schultz on April 19, 1954, in Merrill. The couple fanned until 1966, when they moved into Le Mars. He was employed with the City of Le Mars in the Parks Department and Golf Course for 12 years. He later was employed with Mercy Medical Center in Sioux City until retirement.
Mr. Renken was a member of American Legion Post 724 of Brunsville and Disabled American Veterans in Sioux City. He enjoyed fishing and playing cards.
Survivors include his wife; five children, Connie and her husband Glenn Kellen, Julie Renken and Joyce Renken, all of Le Mars, Nancy and her husband Steve Scholten of Alton, and Keith and his wife Angie of Remsen; eight grandchildren, Katie, Codie and Kurt Kellen, Nicole and Allison Scholten, and Alex, Cassie and Phillip Renken; three sisters, Louise and her husband Henry Beitelspacher of Brunsville, Florence Utech of Le Mars and Viola Tammen of Del Rapids, S.D.; two sisters-in-law. Minnie Renken and Edith Johnson, both of Le Mars: two brothers and their wives, Ray and Esther of Le Mars and Lester and Beulah of Newman Grove, Neb.; and several nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents; an infant son, Terry; mother-in-law and father-in-law, Otto and Maggie Schultz.and three brothers, Butch , George and Lawrence.
