Young Man Is Heart Victim

Funeral services for Dr. Edward Hinken, 33, who collapsed in his office at Washington State college Tuesday and died shortly after (June 28, 1955) in a Pullman hospital will be held Tuesday at 9 a.m. at St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Centralia.

Dr. Hinken was married to the former Florence E. Swearingen, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Glen Swearingen, route 3, Centralia. He had joined the WSC staff less than a month ago as an assistant wood technologist after completing work towards his doctor’s degree at the University of Michigan.

After serving in the Coast Guard during World War II, he attended Centralia Junior College, and went on to the University of Washington where he received his bachelor and master’s degrees.

Dr. Hinken was born on March 16, 1922, at Remsen, Iowa. His death as attributed to a heart attack.

His survivors include his wife, a son James; two daughters, Anna Marie and Susan Elizabeth; mother, Mrs. Ben C. Hinken, Le Mars, Iowa; four sisters, Mrs. Dorothy Miller, and Mrs. Bonnie Baach (Baack), both Le Mars; Mrs. Margaret Longton, St. Paul, Minnesota, and Marion, New Jersey and three brothers Richard and Larry, Le Mars, and Ben in the Navy.

Services will be under the direction of the Newell-Hoerling mortuary, with the Rev. Father Francis X. Murphy officiating. Interment will be in Mountain View burial park.
