Fritz Henry Varenhorst, 83, of Le Mars, Iowa, died on Thursday, June 26, 1997, at his residence.
Services were held on Monday morning, June 30, 1997, at St. John’s Lutheran church in Le Mars, the Reverend David Kramer officiating. Burial as in Memorial Cemetery, under the direction of the Mauer-Johnson Funeral Home.
Mr. Varenhorst was born October 10, 1913, in Preston Township, rural Plymouth County, the son of Henry R. and Aldena (Ludwigs) Varenhorst. He as baptized and confirmed in the Lutheran faith He attended county school in Preston Township.
He married Katherine Kuehn on March 4, 1941, and the couple farmed in Washington Township from 1941 to 1977, when they retired and moved to Le Mars. After his retirement, he continued to farm with his son.
He was a member of St. Paul Lutheran Church in Merrill, IA., and later became a member of St. John’s Lutheran Church.
Survivors include his wife; a son and his wife, Dean and Jeanne of Le Mars; two grandchildren, Mark Varenhorst and Shelly Zeman; a step great-grandson; a sister and her husband Beverly and Robert Jurgenson of Sioux City; four brothers and their wives, William and Ruth, Erwin and Myrna, Norman and Lois and Elmer and Cleone, all of Le Mars; a sister-in-law, Eva Varenhorst; and several nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his stepmother Elsie Varenhorst and two brothers, Harry and an infant.
