Gerd W Popken, 77, of Craig, Iowa, passed away at the Hawarden Community hospital (June 16, 1957 ?). He had been sick only four days.

Mr. Popken was a retired farmer and had spent his entire life in Grant Township and the Craig vicinity.

He was united in marriage to Johanna Miniets on April 19, 1906, in Grant Township. They celebrated their golden wedding anniversary on April 19, 1956.

Funeral services were held today (Thursday) at St. John's American Lutheran church in Craig, Iowa. Burial was in the church cemetery. Rev. Donald Schmidt officiated at the services and Maurers funeral home was in charge of arrangements.

Survivors include the widow: two sons, George and Earnest of Grant Township; three daughters, Mrs. Adeline Janssen, Struble, Mrs. Onno Johnson, LeMars, Mrs. Elmer Rohlfs, LeMars; twenty one grandchildren and nine great grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents; one son, Arthur, three brothers and two sisters.

Mr. Popken was a member of St. John's Lutheran church since 1914 and was a member of the church council and building committee in the construction of the present church.
