Ben C. Eilks, 62, retired farmer who lived all his life in Washington Township died Tuesday July 24, 1956, at the Sacred Heart Hospital. He had been in failing health for three years and the last 11 days he was in the hospital.
He was born September 28, 1893, in Washington Township. He married Emma Reese January 26, 1916 in LeMars.
Mr Eilks had farmed most of his life but at the time of his death he as a Corn Sealer for the ASC.
He was a member of St. Paul's Lutheran church, chairman of church board for 12 years, township trustee for 30 years and president of the school board for Washington township for 20 years.
Survivors include the widow; one daughter, Mrs. Harry Utesch of LeMars, 3 brothers, George of Alton, Henry of LeMars and Herman of Cherokee, one grandson: an aunt, Mrs. Kathrina Harms. He was preceded in death by his parents and two brothers.
Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Friday, July 27, at St.Paul's Lutheran church, Johnson Township. Rev. E.E. Senst will officate and burial will be in the LeMars City cemetery. Mauer's funeral home is in charge of arrangements.
