Chester 'Ted' Havener, 80, of Hinton, died Monday, Jan. 8, 2007, at Indian Hills Nursing and Rehab Center in Sioux City.

Ted was born June 24, 1926 in Winside, Ne., the son of Jay and Elma (Carl) Havener. He was raised in the Winside and Carroll area, graduating from Carroll High School. He served in the United States Navy Air Corp during World War II as both a radioman and gunner. Following his discharge form the military, Ted returned home to help his mother with the family farm. On June 7, 1953, he married Donna L. Kallsen in Sioux City. He farmed near Hinton and was also a welder with Wilson Trailer from 1966 until he retired in 1992.

Ted was an active member of Hinton United Methodist Church. He was a past member of the Board of Trustees. He was also a member of Hinton American Legion, Post # 477.

Ted's main passions were farming and time spent with his family. He was also an avid Huskers Fan.

Survivors include his wife, Donna; four children, Kayleen Patton and her husband, Steve of Cedar Rapids, Ken Havener and his wife, Helen of Green Bay, Wis., LeAnn Havener of Omaha, Neb., and Keith Havener of Sioux City; 10 grandchildren, Timothy Patton, Terese Patton, Troy Patton and Trinity Patton; Sara Havener, Erin Havener and Nathan Havener; Brady Havener, Taylor Havener and Karley Havener. Ted is also survived by numerous nieces and nephews.

Funeral services will be at 11 a.m. Thursday at Hinton United Methodist Church with the Rev. Peg Ellingson officiating. Interment will be in Memorial Park Cemetery in Sioux City, with military graveside rites by Hinton American Legion, Post #477. Visitation will be from 4 to 8 p.m. today (Wednesday) at Meyer Brothers Colonial Chapel in Sioux City, with family present from 6 to 8 p.m. and a prayer service at 7 p.m.

Memorials are suggested to Hinton United Methodist Church and Hospice of Siouxland.
