Rachel N. Schnabel, 90, of Apple Valley, Minn., formerly of Rosemount, Minn., and Le Mars, died Friday, Oct. 16, 2009.
Rachel was born Feb. 24, 1919, in Alpena S.D. She was united in marriage to Gideon Schnabel Oct. 9 1935, in her parents home. The couple farmed near Montrose, S.D., for some years and then farmed near Cleghorn and Marcus in Iowa.
Rachel worked as a nurse's aid at the Marcus Nursing home for approximately eight years. They moved to Le Mars in 1965 where Gideon worked for the school system and Rachel at the Brentwood nursing home for more than 15 years. For many years she enjoyed gardening and canning.
In 1981 they retired and moved to Minnesota. They recently made their home in Apple Valley, Minn., where Rachel went into Augustana Health Care Center.
Rachel and Gideon just celebrated their 74th anniversary Sept 9, 2009.
She was grateful for having shared a long life with her family.
She will be greatly missed by all her family and friends.
She is survived by her loving husband of 74 years, Gideon; children, Dorothy Sonksen, Ronald (Sandra), Darlene (Randall) Reuter, Loretta Ruhland and Sharon Schnabel; 27 grandchildren; more than 48 great-grandchildren and three great-great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by son, Robert.
Funeral services were today (Monday) at Peace Church, Eagan, Minn. Interment was in Lebanon Cemetery in Apple Valley, Minn. Visitation was from 4 to 7 p.m. Sunday at the White Funeral Home, 14560 Pennock Ave., and one hour prior to the service at church.

A heartfelt thank you for all the prayers for her and our family during this time. We rejoice in the knowledge that she now without physical pain and is in heaven with her Lord and Savior, Christ Jesus. A special thanks to the caring nurse staff at Augustana Health Care Center, and the pastoral care from Peace Reformed Church.
