MATTHEW R. FABER

Matthew R. Faber, 79, longtime Remsen banker and real estate dealer and found of the Remsen Commercial Club, died Friday at his home after having been in failing health 16 years.

Funeral services were at 9:30 a.m. Monday at St. Mary Catholic Church. Rt. Rev. Msgr. Francis Schultes officiated and burial was in the church cemetery.

Mr. Faber was born on a farm near Remsen March 22, 1878, the son of the late Michael and Anna Marie Faber. He attended LeMars Normal School, now Westmar College, and taught in a rural school a year before joining the Bank of Remsen, owned by W.B. Creglow.

In 1904, he quit at the Creglow bank and organized the Farmers and Merchants bank, a year later reorganized it as the First National Bank. He was vice president and cashier.

He organized and was secretary for 25 years of the Remsen Commercial Club.

In 1925 Mr. Faber left the bank and went into real estate and investment banking business until his health failed.

He married Emma Wagner in 1908. The widow, of Remsen; a son, Matthew Jr, of Sioux City; and another son, Robert, of Ames, Ia., survive.

He was preceded in death by an infant daughter.
