MRS. ROY SMITH
Mrs. Roy M.Smith (Edna F. King) was born in LeMars, Iowa, Aug. 15, 1893. She graduated from LeMars High School and Westmar College. On August 31, 1922, she married Rev. Roy M. Smith, who at the time of their marriage was a member of the Westmar College faculty. To this union two children were born: Lester Earl, now pastor of the Rincon Congregational Church in Tuscon, Arizona, and a daughter Shirley Elizabeth, who passed away at the age of 9 years.
From 1929 to 1932 the Smiths lived in Canton, Missouri, where Mr. Smith was a member of the Culver-Stockton College faculty. While living in Canton, Mrs. Smith was not only interested in the work of the church but also the Women’s club work and in several social and educational community activities.
From 1932 to 1949 the Smiths served pastorates in the Iowa conference cities, Boxholm, Fort Dodge, & Council Bluffs. During this time Mrs. Smith was a state secretary of the Women’s Missionary Work of the Iowa Conference of the Evangelical United Brethren Church for 4 years. She was also State Pres. Of this some organization for 7 years.
In 1949 the Smiths transferred their church membership and from 1949 to 1956 served pastorates in the South Dakota Conference of the Congregational Church. While living in South Dakota Mrs. Smith was State President of the Women’s Missionary work of the Congregational conference for 3 years. She was also licensed as a Lay-Minister and for three years served as an active minister, one year in Drakola and two years in South Shore.
In 1956 the Smiths retired from the active ministry, built a new home in Hinton, Iowa, and moved there in August of that year. There being no Congregational Church in Hinton, the Smiths placed their church membership in the Mayflower Congregational Church in Sioux City, Iowa.
