WARBURTON, SUMMERS, HOLLINGSHEAD

CHEROKEE, Iowa -- Marvin E. Warburton, 78, of Cherokee died Monday, Dec. 31, 2001, at his residence following a lengthy illness.

Services will be 10:30 a.m. Thursday at Memorial Presbyterian Church in Cherokee, with the Rev. Dee Jay Reiff officiating. Burial will be in Oak Hill Cemetery, with military rites conducted by American Legion L.A. Wescott Post 2253 and Veterans of Foreign Wars. There will be a family prayer service at 10:15 a.m. Thursday at the church. Visitation will be 9 a.m. to 9 p.m. today, with the family present 6:30 to 8 p.m., at Boothby Funeral Home in Cherokee.

Mr. Warburton was born May 16, 1923, in Plymouth County, Iowa, to Arthur and Maude (Summers) Warburton. He attended school in Pierson, Iowa, and graduated from Grand Meadow High School in 1941. He was a veteran of World War II, serving in the U.S. Army with Company C, 712th Tank Battalion with Gen. George S. Patton.

He married Celestine "Sally" Hollingshead on Dec. 8, 1946, at Cleghorn Presbyterian Church in Cleghorn, Iowa. He had farmed all his life, retiring in 1986. He had been a resident of Cherokee since 1987. Prior to this he lived on a farm south of Cherokee for 27 years, and on a farm south of Cleghorn for 10 years.

He was a member of Memorial Presbyterian Church and Little Sioux Wildlife Association. He liked to go hunting, fishing and pitch horseshoes.

He is survived by his wife, Sally; two daughters, Sara Warburton of Cherokee, and Lisa Lindgren and her husband, Al of Sioux Falls, S.D.; a son and his wife, David and Jan Warburton of Earlham, Iowa; eight grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; a sister and her husband, Shirley and John Perrett of Quimby, Iowa; and a brother-in-law, Paul Wych of Washta, Iowa.

He was preceded in death by his parents; a sister, Ferne Wych; and a brother, Lloyd Warburton.
