Edward C. Waltz, 66, of Sioux City died Sunday, Oct. 20, 2002, at his residence following a lengthy illness.

Services will be 1 p.m. Thursday at St. Joseph Catholic Church, with the Rev. Gary Snyder officiating. Burial will be in Calvary Cemetery. Visitation will be 4 to 8 p.m. today, with the family present 6 to 8 p.m. and vigil service at 7 p.m. followed by a rosary, all at Nelson-Berger Northside Chapel.

Mr. Waltz was born June 11, 1936, in Adair County, Iowa, the son of Nick E. and Mary L. (Little) Waltz. He graduated from high school in Winterset, Iowa.

He married E. Kay Thompson on June 6, 1959, in Le Mars. He was employed with the city of Sioux City for 30 years, retiring in 1995.

He was a member of St. Joseph Catholic Church. He had been active in the Boy Scouts at one time. His hobbies included his John Deere tractors, fishing and hunting.

Survivors include his wife, Kay; two sons and their wives, Scott and June Waltz of Crystal Lake, Ill., and Mark and Barbara Waltz of Merrill, Iowa; two daughters, Teresa Waltz and Fred Forney of Sioux City, and Janice Waltz and her husband, Paul Thompson of Detroit, Mich.; four brothers and their wives, James and Sondra Waltz of Norwalk, Iowa, Donald and Debbie Waltz of Des Moines, Daniel and Toni Waltz of Winterset, and Kenneth and Connie Waltz of Lorimer, Iowa; two sisters and their husbands, Betty and Keith Overton of Des Moines, and Marilyn and Cliel Lyddon of Norwalk, Iowa; nine grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents and a sister, Kathleen Holliday.

Pallbearers will be his grandchildren, Nathan Cannon, Marci Huscher, Talisha Archambo, Jardian Holder, Rebecca Waltz and Catherine Waltz. Honorary pallbearers will be his grandchildren, Drake Holder and Maria Waltz.
