PIERSON, Iowa -- Ivan E. Walker, 77, of Pierson died unexpectedly Saturday, Nov. 9, 2002 in Kingsley, Iowa.
Services will be 10:30 a.m. Tuesday at First Lutheran Church in Kingsley, with the Rev. Duane Meissner officiating. Burial will be in Grand Meadow Cemetery, rural Washta, Iowa. Visitation will be after 2 p.m. today, with the family present 6 to 8 p.m., and a prayer service at 7 p.m., all at Earnest-Michaelson Funeral Home in Kingsley.
Ivan was born Nov. 6, 1925 in Correctionville, Iowa, the son of Harry and Pearl (Morgan) Walker. He grew up in the Correctionville-Pierson, Iowa area. During World War II he served in the U.S. Navy. After his honorable discharge, he moved back to Pierson.
On May 1, 1949 he married Gertrude Winslow in Pierson. Gertrude and Ivan made their home in Pierson. Gertrude died April 20, 1969. On Jan. 26, 1974 he married Beatrice (Martin) Saxen. After their marriage, he and Beatrice made their home in the Pierson area. Ivan worked at the Farmers Co-op Elevator in Pierson until his retirement in 1987.
He was a member of First Lutheran Church in Kingsley and the Harrison F. Pedersen American Legion of Pierson. Ivan enjoyed watching his grandchildren in their sporting events, band and dance. He also enjoyed using his carpentry skills at the Woodbury County fairgrounds in Moville, Iowa, along with farming and raising his own garden.
Survivors include his wife, Beatrice of Pierson; two sons and their wives, Stephen and Veronica Walker of Sioux City and Ray and Nancy Walker of Kingman, Ariz.; a stepson, Roger Saxen and his wife, Patsy, of Onawa, Iowa; two daughters and their husbands, Helen and Billy Mc Kay of Marshalltown, Iowa and Janice and Ronald Thompson of Everly, Iowa; 11 grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; two brothers, Keith Walker and his wife, Marlene, of Cherokee, Iowa and Lowell Walker of Loma Linda, Calif.; and many nieces and nephews.
