Ethel M. Wanderscheid, 81, of Sioux City died Saturday, July 13, 2002, at a Sioux City hospital following a lengthy illness.

Services will be 11:30 a.m. Tuesday at Nativity Catholic Church with the Rev. Gerald Feierfeil officiating. Burial will be in Memorial Park Cemetery. Visitation will be 4 to 8 p.m. today, with family present 6 to 8 p.m. and a parish vigil at 7 p.m., at Nelson-Berger Morningside Chapel.

Mrs. Wanderscheid was born Feb. 26, 1921, in Mapleton, Iowa, the daughter of Antone and Ellen Ernst. She was raised in the Kingsley and Le Mars, Iowa, areas.

She married Paul Wanderscheid on Nov. 29, 1939, at St. James Catholic Church in Le Mars. In their early married life, they lived in Moville, Iowa, and moved to Sioux City in 1953. After their retirement, they spent 20 summers at Big Elbow Lake in Minnesota and made many wonderful lifetime friends.

She was a member of Nativity Catholic Church and prior to that a longtime member of St. Francis Catholic Church. During the summers she was a member of St. Francis Cabrini Catholic Church on Big Elbow Lake.

She enjoyed fishing, gardening, cooking and watching the hummingbirds.

Survivors include her husband; two daughters, Marilyn Prescott, and Linda Linduski and her partner, Mark Carley, all of Sioux City; two sons, Dan Wanderscheid and his wife, Katherine (Kirk), and Gary Wanderscheid and his wife, Vicki, all of Sioux City; grandchildren, Steve Prescott and his friend, Renee, Mark Linduski, Mindy Wambach and her husband, James, Stacy Prescott, Nick Wanderscheid, Jacob Wanderscheid, Whitney Wanderscheid, Lori Prescott, Nicholas and Tiffany Socknat; great-grandchildren, Kelsey, Connor and Nicole Prescott; and a brother, Elmer Ernst.

She was preceded in death by her parents; three sisters, Sophie Stodden, Evie Hoffman and Elsie Ernst; three brothers, Jess, Frank and Ray Ernst; and a grandson, Scott Prescott.

Pallbearers will be her grandchildren, Steve Prescott, Mark Linduski, Mindy Wambach, Stacy Prescott, Nick Wanderscheid, Jacob Wanderscheid, Whitney Wanderscheid and Lori Prescott.
