IRETON, Iowa -- Jarold E. Van Donge, 78, of Ireton died Thursday, Nov. 14, 2002, at Sioux Center Community Hospital in Sioux Center, Iowa.
Services will be 10:30 a.m. Monday at St. John Evangelical Lutheran Church in Craig, Iowa, with the Rev. Curtis Matson officiating. Burial will be in Pleasant Hill Cemetery in Ireton. Visitation will begin at noon Sunday, with the family present 7 to 8 p.m., at Porter Funeral Home in Ireton.
Jarold Eugene Van Donge was born Sept. 16, 1924, on the family farm near Ireton, the son of Ed and Gertrude (Schutt) Van Donge. He graduated from Ireton High School in 1941. He served with the 8th Armored Division, "The Thundering Herd" of the U.S. Army's 94th Infantry during World War II from 1943 to 1946.
Jarold married Neva Hoogland May 16, 1948, in Hawarden, Iowa. He was a lifelong resident of the Ireton area. He farmed with his brother from 1946 until health problems in 1964. He worked at McNally Grain from 1964 to 1968, Siouxland Propane, and later at Siouxland Implement for 18 years as a bookkeeper until he retired in 1982.
Jarold was a member of St. John Evangelical Lutheran Church in Craig, the Eagles Club, 60 years continuous membership in American Legion Post 276 of Ireton, and a lifetime member of the V.F.W.
Survivors include his wife, Neva; a daughter, Wauneva "Peanut" Wagers and her husband, Steve of Hawarden; two granddaughters, Heather Kaskie and her husband, Shawn of Ireton, and Dawn Rus and her fiance, Richard Swope of Eldridge, Iowa; a grandson, Weston Van Donge and his wife, Becky of Moville, Iowa; five great-grandchildren, Colton, Dereck and Abigail Kaskie, Alicia and Jonathan Rus; and a sister-in-law, Mildred Van Donge Leahy of Sioux Falls, S.D.
Jarold was preceded in death by his parents; a son, Waune Van Donge; a brother, Edward Van Donge Jr.; a half brother, Theodore "Porky" Schneider; and a half sister, Helen (Schneider) Krueger.
