REMSEN, Iowa -- Two men are dead following an early-morning car collision Sunday in Remsen.

Patrick Earl Sitzmann, 23, of Le Mars, Iowa, and Phillip Andrew Vanderham, 26, of rural Westfield, Iowa, died as a result of injuries received in the accident.

At 5:36 a.m. Sunday, the Plymouth County Sheriff's Office received a report of a single-vehicle accident at Fifth and Fulton streets in Remsen. Sitzmann was driving his 2001 Mitsubishi Eclipse east on Fifth Street when he apparently lost control of the vehicle and struck a tree at the corner of Fulton Street, police said. Vanderham was a passenger in the vehicle.

Both were transported to Floyd Valley Hospital in Le Mars, where they were pronounced dead.

The accident is under investigation by the Remsen Police Department, the Plymouth County Sheriff's Office and the Iowa State Patrol. Remsen Ambulance and Fire assisted at the scene.

WESTFIELD, Iowa -- Phillip A. Vanderham, 26, of Westfield died Sunday, Dec. 30, 2001, at Floyd Valley Hospital in Le Mars, Iowa, of injuries suffered in an automobile accident.

Services will be 10:30 a.m. Thursday at St. Michael's Catholic Church in Sioux City, with the Rev. Timothy J. Hogan officiating. Burial will be in St. Joseph Cemetery, Akron, Iowa. Visitation will be 2 to 9 p.m. today, with the family present 6:30 to 8 p.m. and a parish vigil service at 7 p.m., at Larkin Northside Funeral Home in Sioux City.

Mr. Vanderham was born July 7, 1975, in Akron. He graduated from Heelan High School in Sioux City in 1995. He had lived most of his life in the Westfield area.

He farmed and was a co-owner of the Vanderham Livestock Co. For the last two years, he worked as a corrugator operator at Wells Blue Bunny in Le Mars.

He was a member of St. Michael's Catholic Church. He was active in sports. He played football and wrestled for Heelan High School. He also wrestled for the Quants Saints Wrestling Club. He bowled for Wells Blue Bunny and was a strong supporter of the Chicago Bears football team.

Survivors include his father, Jerald S. Vanderham of Westfield; his mother, Nancy A. (Warren) Vanderham of Hawarden, Iowa; a son, Tristan P. Siemieniewski of Kansas City, Mo.; a brother and his wife, Chuck and Jami Vanderham of Hawarden; two sisters and their husbands, Sue and Chris Stanek of Sioux City, and Tina and Lance Morehead of Cherokee, Iowa; his fiancee, Lisa Hyer and her two daughters, Sabrina and Victoria Hyer, all of Le Mars; and 12 nieces and nephews.

Pallbearers will be Jerald Vanderham, Chuck Vanderham, Tom Vanderham, Chuck Whitney, Mike Whitney and Matt Max.
