Otilda “Tillie” Heyl, 88, of Akron, Iowa, passed away Wednesday, June 10, 2009 at the Akron Care Center in Akron.
Funeral services will be 10:30 a.m. Tuesday, June 16, 2009 at Immanuel Lutheran Church, E.L.C.A. in Akron. Reverend Dawn Quame will officiate. Burial will follow in Union Creek Cemetery, rural Union County, South Dakota. Visitation will be after 3:00 p.m. Monday, June 15, 2009, with the family present from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m., all at Carlsen Funeral Home – Schroeder Chapel in Akron, Iowa.
Otilda Janet Heyl was born May 18, 1921 in Union County, South Dakota, the daughter of John and Oktje (Lucht) Willms. She was baptized and confirmed into the Christian faith. She attended country school in Union County and later high school in Alcester. She graduated from Alcester High School.
Tillie was united in marriage to Clark Heyl on February 1, 1939 at Trinity Lutheran Church in Sioux City, Iowa. Early on, Tillie was a homemaker for her family. Through the years, she helped her husband with their trucking and custom corn shelling business in Akron. Tillie also worked as a bookkeeper and custodian for several businesses in Akron until retiring in 1993. Clark passed away September 23, 1985.
Tillie was a longtime member of Immanuel Lutheran Church in Akron. She always loved a good visit, especially with her family, friends, and staff of the Akron Care Center and Hospice of Siouxland. She will be greatly missed by all who knew her.
Survivors include a son: Jerome Heyl and his wife Lyn of Las Vegas, NV; a daughter: Diana Beeck and her husband Edward of Akron, IA; a grandson: Robert Heyl and his daughters, Katelyn and Ashlyn of Las Vegas, NV; a sister: Jana “Jennie” Hebert of Sioux City, IA; a sister-in-law: Lois Willms of Akron, IA; and several nieces, nephews, and cousins.
She was preceded in death by her parents; 3 brothers: Frank, Edward, and Henry Willms; and several in-laws.
Tillie’s family would like to thank the staff of the Akron Care Center and Hospice of Siouxland for their care and comfort.
