Stella C. Frederes, 95, of Alton, died Friday, June 12, 2009, at Good Samaritan Society-Le Mars.
The former Stella C. Streff was born July 18, 1913, at rural Alton, the daughter of Felix and Anna (Pottebaum) Streff. She was raised in the Alton area. She attended St. Mary's Academy in Alton. On Sept. 12, 1938, she married Lawrence Frederes at Alton. The couple lived in the Alton area most of their lives except for a few years when they ranched in Draper, S.D. They moved back to Alton in 1951. Lawrence died Nov. 17, 2000. Stella spent the last few years of her life in a care center in Le Mars.
She was a member of St. Mary Catholic Church in Alton and honorary member of the church Guild, St. Mary Rosary Society.
Survivors include a daughter, Lois and her husband Terry Bauler of Spring Hill, Fla., a son Elmer and his wife Sue Frederes of Alton, a daughter Rita and her husband Gary Stewart of Sioux Falls, S.D., a son Wayne and his wife Mary Frederes of Perry, a son Lowell and his wife Shirley Frederes of Omaha, Neb.; 20 grandchildren, 29 great-grandchildren; four sisters-in-law, Mrs. Clarence (Phyllis) Streff of Alton, Mrs. Clifford (Mary Ann) Streff of Slayton, Minn., Mrs. Robert (Phyllis) Streff of Sauk Center, Minn., and Mrs. Irvin (Macie) Streff of Sheldon.
She was preceded in death by one son, Leon; eight brothers, Clarence, Vincent, Raymond, Robert, Clifford, Irvin, Francis and Charles; and three sisters, Callista Frederes, Charlene Scheitler and Ester in infancy.
Funeral services will be at 10:30 a.m. Tuesday at St. Mary Catholic Church in Alton with the Rev. Paul Eisele officiating. Burial will be in St. Mary Cemetery in Alton. Friends may call anytime after 4 p.m. today (Monday). There will be a rosary at 5 p.m., and a vigil prayer service at 7 p.m., all at St. Mary Catholic Church in Alton.
Casket bearers will be Kevin and Kurt Frederes, Gary Dean Stewart, Steve Messerschmidt, Todd Peterson and Todd Frederes.
Fisch Funeral Home and Monument of Remsen is in charge of arrangements.
