Robert “Bob” Voss, 89, of Akron, Iowa passed away Monday, June 15, 2009 at the Akron Care Center in Akron.
Memorial Mass will be 10:30 a.m. Thursday, June 18, 2009 at St. Patrick’s Catholic Church in Akron. Monsignor Richard Zenk will celebrate. Inurnment will be in St. Patrick’s Catholic Cemetery in Akron. Visitation will be after 4:00 p.m. Wednesday, June 17, 2009, with the family present after 6:00 p.m., and Scriptural Wake Service at 7:00 p.m. followed by a Parish rosary, all at Carlsen Funeral Home – Schroeder Chapel in Akron.
Robert Francis Voss was born August 23, 1919 on the family farm near Akron, Iowa the son of Joseph and Frances (Krenz) Voss. He attended country school and later St. Joseph’s Catholic School in Akron. Following his schooling, he helped his family on the farm. Through the years, he farmed with his brother Art on that same farm. In 1981, they moved to Akron but continued helping on the farm.
Bob was a member of St. Patrick’s Catholic Church in Akron, having ushered for more than 50 years. Bob was a longtime member of Farm Bureau. Bob and Art also helped with the care taking of the church and cemetery grounds. Bob was an avid sports fan, where he loved to watch Notre Dame football. He also enjoyed gardening, sawing wood, hunting, and fishing. He will be greatly missed by all who knew him.
Survivors include his brother, Art Voss of Akron, IA; two nephews: Joe Voss of Black River Falls, WI, and Richard “Butch” Willis and his wife Elaine of North Carolina; a niece: Mary Allen and her husband Bob of Mabank, TX; two great-nephews: Robert Voss and his wife Louise and their son, Evan of Black River Falls, WI, and Peter Voss of Black River Falls, WI; a great-niece: Kayla Voss of Sun Prairie, WI; and special friends: Kevin and Sandi DeRocher and their family, Corey, Mitch, Matt, Tasha, and Ty of Akron, IA.
He was preceded in death by his parents: two sisters: Mary Voss in infancy and Benita Willis and her husband George; a brother and his wife: Gerald and Irene “Pinky” Voss.
