REMSEN, Iowa -- LeRoy P. Treinen, 86, of Remsen died Monday, May 20, 2002, at Happy Siesta Health Care Center in Remsen following a brief illness with cancer.

Services will be 10:30 a.m. Thursday at St. Mary's Catholic Church in Remsen, with the Rev. Thomas J. Hart officiating. Burial will be in St. Mary's Cemetery. Visitation will be after 2 p.m. today, with a parish rosary at 3 p.m., a vigil prayer service at 7:30 p.m., and a rosary by the Knights of Columbus at 8 p.m., all at Fisch Funeral Home in Remsen.

Mr. Treinen was born Aug. 2, 1915, in rural Remsen, the son of Joseph and Margaret (Lehnertz) Treinen. He was raised in the Remsen area and received his education at St. Mary's Catholic School, graduating in 1933. He was then employed with Schaaf's Hardware in Remsen. He entered the U.S. Army on Feb. 10, 1941, serving during World War II. He was stationed in the African and European Theaters, being discharged Aug. 16, 1945.

He married Bernice Minten on Jan. 20, 1942, at Fort Dix, N.J. After his discharge, he returned to Remsen, where the couple has since made their home. He was employed with Groff Plumbing Co. for a short time and then at Schaaf's Hardware until its closing in August 1985, at which time he retired.

He was a member of St. Mary's Catholic Church, Knights of Columbus and Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 3328, all in Remsen.

Survivors include his wife, Bernice of Remsen; a daughter, Jolene Treinen of Ira, Iowa; a brother and his wife, Claude and Anita of Elrose, Canada; two sisters, Kathryn Snyder of Sanborn, Iowa, and Elizabeth O'Leary of Utica, Mich.; and two sisters-in-law, Sylvia Treinen of Le Mars, Iowa, and Leota Treinen of Coralville, Iowa.

He was preceded in death by his parents; six brothers, Raymond in infancy, Albert, Leonard, Edmund, Francis and Lewis; and two sisters, Helen in infancy and Blanche Collins.

Pallbearers will be Randy Brower, Tom Letsche, Ron Minten, Greg Pick, Phil Snyder and Mark Treinen.
