KINGSLEY, Iowa -- Earl Tyer, 95, of Kingsley died Friday, Dec. 24, 2004, at a Sioux City hospital.

Services will be 10 a.m. Tuesday at Church of the Nazarene in Climbing Hill, Iowa. Burial will be in Westfork Township Cemetery, Climbing Hill. Visitation will be 6 to 8 p.m. today, with a prayer service at 7 p.m., at Christy-Smith McCulloch Chapel in Moville, Iowa.

Earl was born on Jan. 16, 1909, near Winterset, Iowa, the son of Ray and Lille (McDonald) Tyer. He attended country school near Winterset and graduated from Redfield High School. Earl moved to Omaha in the early 1930s.

He married Emma Marie Hansen on May 28, 1938, at Omaha, where the couple made their home until moving to a farm west of Climbing Hill in 1960. In 1963, they moved to a farm near Kingsley. Earl worked for Omar Bakery in the early 1940s. He farmed and was a tool and die maker for Tip Top Products and Central States Co., retiring in the mid-1970s.

He was a member of the Church of the Nazarene in Climbing Hill. Earl enjoyed working with his hands and gave much of his woodworking back to the community.

Survivors include his wife, Emma Marie Tyer, of Kingsley; two sons, Bill (Linda) Tyer of Omaha and Cal (Barb) Tyer of Kingsley; two daughters, Naomi "Nonie" (Leonard) Lund of Whiting, Iowa, and Norma Jean (Paul) Linnell of Omaha; 10 grandchildren; 15 great-grandchildren; two sisters, Margaret (Gene) Peterson of Des Moines and Esther Pilmer of Winterset; a brother, Calvin (Audrey) Tyer of Des Moines; as well as nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.

He was preceded in death by his parents; an infant daughter, Betty Marie Tyer; a son, Richard Ray Tyer; a sister, Ruth Tyer; and two brothers, Roscoe and Gilbert Tyer.
