Walter L. Trobaugh, 75, of Sioux City died Friday, May 3, 2002, at his daughter's home in Moville, Iowa, with family members present, following a lengthy illness.

Memorial services will be 11 a.m. Tuesday at Riverside United Methodist Church with the Rev. Janice Bennett officiating. Burial will be in Memorial Park Cemetery, with military rites conducted by Veterans of Foreign Wars Sergeant Floyd Post 1973. Visitation will be 6 to 8 p.m. today, with family present, and a prayer service at 7 p.m., at Nelson-Berger Morningside Chapel.

Mr. Trobaugh was born Oct. 11, 1926, in Sioux City, the son of Anthony Abraham and Iva (Holder) Trobaugh. He graduated from Westfield Community School. He married Malva M. "Mert" Anderson on Dec. 21, 1945, in Akron, Iowa. She died March 21, 2002, in Sioux City.

He co-owned and operated a service filling station in Sioux City. He then worked at Big Sioux Power Plant until joining the U.S. Air Force in 1951, serving until 1953. The couple farmed near Westfield, Iowa, until 1973, when they moved back to Sioux City. He worked at Iowa Public Service Company, retiring in 1988 after 45 years as supervisor at Mid-American Energy.

He served on the board of directors of Iowa Public Service Credit Union for more than 20 years. He was a member of Riverside United Methodist Church.

He was very devoted to family and friends. He enjoyed fishing, gardening, traveling, bowling, cribbage and card games.

Survivors include a daughter and her husband, Tanya and Greg Sherrill of Moville; a son, Terry Trobaugh and his fiancee, Sandy Whitlock of Sioux City; a brother and his wife, Chester and Ellen Trobaugh of Sioux City; a sister and her husband, Mae and Bill Byars of Phoenix, Ariz.; two grandchildren, Benjamin Britton and Alexandra Sherrill; two stepgrandchildren, Ryan and Carlee Sherrill; and many nieces, nephews and other family members.

He also was preceded in death by his parents; and three sisters, Irene in infancy, Opal Soloman and Hazel Groves.

Honorary pallbearers will be Roger Groves, Rodney Lewison, Chip Groves, Herman Harbeck, Chester Trobaugh and Glen Groves.

Memorials may be made in his name to the Siouxland Regional Cancer Center or Hospice of Siouxland.
