WAS PIONEER RESIDENT IN JAMES VICINITY

Elias Bennett, 82 years old, an early resident of Plymouth County, passed away Sunday in his home at James after a months illness.

Mr. Bennett was born September 22, 1851, at Hecla, Ind. On October 20, 1872, he was united in marriage to Rachel Evans, who preceded him in death 18 years ago.

In 1882 he moved to a farm near James where he made his home and operated the farm until a few years ago when he retired. After his retirement from farming he moved to James where he has since resided. He was a member of Wesley Methodist Church at Leeds.

Mr. Bennett has enjoyed good health, considering his age, until four weeks ago when he was stricken with a light stroke and had been confined to his bed since that time.

Surviving Mr. Bennett are two sons, Jacob Bennett of Leeds, and Marion Bennett of Presho, S.D.; one daughter, Mrs. A.J. Johnston of James; one brother, Charles Bennett of James; one sister, Mrs. Matilda Addis of Columbia City, Ind.; two half brothers, George Bennett of Sioux City and Noah Bennett; 18 grandchildren; and nine great grandchildren.

The funeral services were held Monday afternoon from Westcott’s chapel in Sioux City. Rev. J.E. Feller, pastor of Wesley Methodist church, officiated and burial was in Graceland Park Cemetery.
