Funeral services for Mrs. Amelia Empey, 81, a former resident of Hinton and Sioux City, who passed away Wednesday, Dec. 24, in the home of a daughter at Hammond, Ind., was held at 2 o’clock in the Methodist church at Hinton, with Rev. D.E. Streyfeller, pastor of the church officiating. Burial was in Graceland Park Cemetery in Sioux City.
Mrs. Empey was born January 22, 1871, at Hinton. She was married to the late Rev. Frank Empey in 1908. Rev. Mr. Empey was financial secretary at Morningside college for several years in the 1920s. He was a Methodist minister.
She had resided in Sioux City for many years before making her home with her daughter, Mrs. Harold Turpin in Indiana.
Survivors are two daughters, Mrs. Harold Turpin of Hammond, and Mrs. Helen Collins, of Minneapolis, Minn.; seven brothers, Phillip, Fred, Edward, Ben, Albert, Elmer, and Walter Held, all of Hinton; two sisters, Mrs. Margaret Baker of Moville and Mrs. Carrie Bancroft of Minneapolis; and five grandchildren.
Music was rendered by a quartet composed of two nephews and two nieces, Carolyn Held, Mrs. Ray Dierksen, Gordon Held and Stanley Held. Accompanist was Mrs. Charles Walter Held.
Six nephews were pallbearers, Russell Held, Howard Held, Thomas Held, Charles Walter Held, Eugene Held, Clarence Held.
