ANOTHER PIONEER CALLED BY DEATH

Many relatives and old friends mourn the passing of Mrs. Louise Riediger, 81, a resident of Plymouth County for 71 years, who died Monday in the home of her daughters, Mrs. A.E. Bogenrief.

She was born in Ruby, Mich., May 12, 1856, and when she was 10 years old came to Iowa with her parents, Mr. and Mrs. Carl Jackman, in a covered wagon. She was one of the old settlers that endured the early day hardships with droughts, grasshoppers, etc., and many experiences with the Indians. After their arrival in this community the family stayed at one of the Schneider homes for a year, after which time the deceased was united in marriage on March 30, 1874, to Henry C. Riediger, who had taken a homestead four miles east of where Hinton is now located, where she resided 45 years. To this union nine children were born of whom all survive excepting two, Johana, who died in infancy, and John, who died July 18, 1898, at the age of 15. Her husband preceded her in death March 21, 1903.

Mrs. Riediger was baptized and confirmed in her early life, being a member of Trinity Lutheran Church and an active member of the Ladies Aid.

Mrs. Riediger moved to Hinton April 16, 1919, and in 1934, due to illness she decided to live with her daughter, Mrs. A.E. Bogenrief. On March 26, she suffered a paralytic stroke and died April 19, 1937, at the age of 81 years.

Surviving are four sons and three daughters, namely: Gustav Riediger, Anna Jebson, Bertha Epling, Albert Riediger, August Riediger, all of Hinton; Martin Riediger of Leeds; and Henrietta Bogenrief of Hinton; 16 grandchildren and four great grandchildren.

Funeral services were conducted Wednesday afternoon at 1 o’clock from the home and at 2 o’clock from Trinity Lutheran Church in Lincoln Township with Rev. R.J. Torgler officiating. Six grandsons acted as pallbearers. Interment was made in the church cemetery. Ivan Winter was in charge of the funeral.
