Funeral Tuesday for Lena Meyen
Funeral services for Mrs. Lena Meyen, who died January 31 at Sacred Heart hospital in LeMars, were held at 10 a.m. Tuesday, January 2 in St. Mary’s Catholic church here. Msgr. F.P. Schultes officiated and burial was in St. Mary’s cemetery.
Mrs. Meyen has made her home with her son Ben Heuertz for the past seven months, prior to which she was resident of LeMars. She had been in failing health for some time.
Lena Mai Meyen was born July 8, 1875 in Jesup, Iowa. (She was the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. William Mai.) She was united in marriage to J.P. Heuertz on September 20, 1892. Her first husband died. (J.P.Heuertz and Lena Mai were the parents of four children. J.P. Heuertz died on September 20, 1905, he was 39 years old.) She was married to Fred Meyen on February 11, 1907. He died in 1934. (Fred Meyen and Lena Mai were the parents of three children.)
Surviving are one son, Ben Heuertz of Remsen; four daughters, Mrs. A.H. Stoeber of LeMars, Ia., Mrs. Jack Tentinger, Youngstown, Ohio, Mrs. Lawrence Hoefling, LeMars, and Clarinda Bourn of Bellflower, Calif,; 21 grandchildren 79 great-grandchildren and 10 great-great-grandchildren. (Mrs. Meyen was preceded in death by her parents, one brother, Barney Mai, and two sisters, Mary Annie Mai and Mrs. Nick (Margaret) Frank.) Rosary was recited Monday afternoon and evening at the Fisch Funeral Home which had charge of arrangements.
