ELK POINT, S.D. -- Mabel Viola Ronell, 95, of Elk Point died Friday, Oct. 18, 2002, at the Long Term Care Center in Genoa, Neb.

Services will be 1:30 p.m. Wednesday at Dalesburg Lutheran Church, rural Vermillion, S.D. Burial will be in Ahlsborg Cemetery, Elk Point. Visitation will be 4 to 7:30 p.m. Tuesday, with a prayer service at 7:30 p.m., at Iverson-Siecke Funeral Home in Vermillion. Arrangements are being handled by Palmer Funeral Home in Fullerton, Neb.

Mabel was born Nov. 19, 1906, in rural Plymouth County near Akron, Iowa, to Louis and Elizabeth "Lizzie" (Jammerthal) Kaelke. She grew up in the Akron vicinity and worked for a brief period of time in Sioux City.

On March 18, 1930, she married Henry Ronell. They lived near Spink in Union County, S.D., where they farmed until Henry's death in 1968.

Mabel was a member of Ahlsborg Lutheran Church in rural Elk Point until its closing. She then attended Dalesburg Lutheran Church. She was active in L.C.W. and Sunday school. She served as a member on the Bethesda Lutheran Home Board of Directors. She enjoyed handiwork, church activities, gardening and spending time with her family.

Survivors include a son, Norman and his wife, Ione of Fullerton; three grandchildren, Karren and her husband, Brad Peterson of Canton, S.D., Jason Ronell of Las Vegas, Nev., and Lara and her husband, Tyler Tiller, Peace Corps volunteers in Kazakhstan; and four great-grandchildren, Sally, Sam, Scott and Seth Peterson.

In addition to her parents and her husband, she was preceded in death by an infant son and two sisters, Mrs. Lars (Myrtle) Larson and Mrs. Howard (Dorothy) Beutin.
