Vincent J. Rolfes, 70, of Sioux City died Tuesday, Sept. 10, 2002, at a Sioux City hospital following a lengthy illness.
Services will be 10 a.m. Friday at St. Michael's Catholic Church in Sioux City, with the Rev. Timothy J. Hogan officiating. Burial will be in Calvary Cemetery, with military rites. Visitation will be 5 to 9 p.m. today, with the family present 6 to 8 p.m. and a parish vigil service at 7 p.m., at Larkin Northside Funeral Home.
Mr. Rolfes was born Aug. 7, 1932, in rural Plymouth County, near Merrill, Iowa, the son of Joseph and Vivian (Sullivan) Rolfes. He moved to Sioux City in 1943 and graduated from Heelan High School in 1951. After high school, he attended the National Business Training College. He served in the U.S. Army during the Korean Conflict, stationed in Japan.
On Sept. 30, 1961, he married Ceola Kyle at St. Boniface Catholic Church in Sioux City. He worked for United Wholesalers from 1962 to 1975. From 1975 to 1994, he worked for the 185th Iowa Air National Guard unit. He also was a member of the Reserves. He worked for the Sioux City School District from 1981 until 1994, in the school lunch program.
He was a lifelong member of St. Michael's Catholic Church. He enjoyed bike riding, attending his children's sporting events and spending time with his grandchildren.
He is survived by his wife, Ceola of Sioux City; a daughter and her husband, Laura and Kevin Owens of Sioux City; a son, Todd of Sioux City; two grandchildren, Anna and Ryan Owens; and two sisters, Mary Frey of Iowa City, Iowa, and Vera Flaa of Cedar Rapids, Iowa.
