MARCUS, Iowa -- Verna K. Rieper, 90, of Marcus died Tuesday, July 1, 2003, at Heartland Care Center in Marcus.

Services will be 10 a.m. Saturday at Peace Lutheran Church in Marcus, with the Rev. James Gruber officiating. Burial will be in Marcus-Amherst Cemetery. Visitation will be after 4 p.m. Friday, with the family present 6 to 8 p.m. and a prayer service at 7:30 p.m., at Rohde-Earnest Funeral Home in Marcus.

Mrs. Rieper was born Dec. 11, 1912, in Remsen, Iowa, the daughter of Henry and Anna (Kirchoff) Ohlendorf.

On May 17, 1933, she and Henry Rieper were united in marriage in Ponca, Neb. After their marriage, they lived in Missouri until 1936, when they moved back to the Marcus area and purchased a farm south of Marcus. They farmed and lived there until retirement in 1971, at which time they moved into Marcus. Henry died May 5, 2000.

She was a life time member of Peace Lutheran Church.

Survivors include a daughter and her husband, Joan and James Potts of Hudson, Wis.; a son and his wife, Durward and Beverly Rieper of Hudson, S.D.; six grandchildren, William Rieper, Lisa Staaf, Julie Kerekes, Charles Rieper, Robert Rieper and James Rieper; seven great-grandchildren; and a sister, Ruth Ann Meehan of Marcus.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Henry; four brothers and six sisters.
