KINGSLEY, Iowa -- Sally Puttmann, 67, of Kingsley died unexpectedly Tuesday, Sept. 17, 2002, at a Sioux City hospital.

Memorial services will be 11 a.m. Saturday at Salem Lutheran Church in rural Correctionville, Iowa, with the Rev. Martin Mueller officiating. Graveside services will be 10 a.m. Saturday in Kingsley Cemetery. Visitation will be 2 to 8 p.m. today, with the family present 4 to 6 p.m., at Earnest-Michaelson Funeral Home in Kingsley.

Sally Puttmann was born June 7, 1935, in Kingsley, the daughter of E.A. and Farsina R. (Fletcher) Spink. She was raised in the Kingsley area and graduated from Kingsley High School in 1953.

On Aug. 25, 1953, she and Dwight R. Puttmann were united in marriage at Salem Lutheran Church. Following Dwight's military service, the couple began farming south of Kingsley in 1957. She was extremely involved with the farming operation. The couple later formed a farming partnership with Joe Hlas in 1988.

She was a lifelong member of the Farm Bureau and had been active in both county and state levels having served as the Woodbury County Farm Bureau president and vice president. In 1995, she became the first woman ever elected as a district director to the Iowa Farm Bureau Federation board. Her work on the State Soil Conservation committee (1987 to 1994) led to her becoming its representative on the Leopold Center's advisory board.

Included in the long list of community service projects she volunteered for were, Water Quality Committee, Iowa Environmental Council and Iowa State Soil Conservation Committee chairman. She also served on the Little Sioux Corn Processors Board. She was honored with the Iowa Master Farm Homemaker Award in 1995. She was a member of Salem Lutheran Church, where she served on many local, synod and district committees.

She will be lovingly remembered by her daughters and their husbands, Sandy and Matt Salmon of Cedar Falls, Iowa, and Kay and Brian Michaelson of Le Mars, Iowa; five grandchildren, Caleb, Jesse and Peter Salmon and Adam and Jenelle Michaelson; a sister, Secret Plendl of Kingsley; two sisters-in-law, Betty and Beulah Spink, both of Kingsley; a brother-in-law and his wife, Wayne and Harriet Puttmann of Eau Claire, Wis.; and many nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Dwight, on Sept. 19, 1995; her parents; two brothers, Jerry and Vance Spink; an infant sister; and a brother-in-law, Ed Plendl.

Memorials will be divided between the Salem Lutheran Church addition and the Dwight and Sally Puttmann Kingsley-Pierson Scholarship Fund.
