Vernon A. Rabe, 75, of Sioux City died Tuesday, May 14, 2002, at a Sioux City hospital.

Services will be 10:30 a.m. Saturday at Concordia Lutheran Church, with the Rev. Donald Schlesselman officiating. Burial will be in Logan Park Cemetery. Visitation will be 2 to 8 p.m. Friday, with the family present 6 to 8 p.m. and a prayer service at 7 p.m., at Meyer Brothers Colonial Chapel.

Mr. Rabe was born June 2, 1926, in Westfield, Iowa, the son of Albert and Mathilda (Jahn) Rabe. He grew up in Charter Oak, Iowa.

He married Frances E. Dorfler on Nov. 9, 1947, in Charter Oak. The couple moved to Sioux City in 1956. He worked for Sioux City Motor Express during the late 1950s and Marx Trucking in the 1960s. He then worked for Sioux Transportation from 1969 until the company closed. He then worked for American Freight until his retirement.

He was a member of Concordia Lutheran Church, where he served as a former elder and trustee. He enjoyed bowling and spectator sports.

Survivors include his wife, Frances; two daughters, Wanita Bishop and Beverly Rabe, both of Sioux City; a brother and his wife, Bernard and Phyllis Rabe of Highland Park, Calif.; four grandchildren, Randy Bishop, Jana and her husband, Randy Rowe, Ericka Bishop and Frankie Rabe; and three great-grandchildren, Tony, Samantha and Bryce.

He was preceded in death by a daughter, Janet Rabe; his mother; two brothers, Martin and Ernest Rabe; and a sister, Adeline Woock.
